A California district lawyer declined to file prices Tuesday in opposition to former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson after he was recorded on video in a physical altercation with one other passenger on a JetBlue flight.
San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe made the choice after having reviewed police experiences and videos of the April 20 incident. Each the passenger, who has not been identified, and Tyson requested that no charges be filed.
"Yesterday afternoon the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office concluded its assessment of the case involving Mike Tyson on the San Francisco Airport on April 20, 2022 and the allegation that he dedicated a misdemeanor battery in opposition to one other passenger on an airplane while ready on the terminal previous to departure," Wagstaffe said in a press release.
"Our choice is that we'll not file any charges towards Mr. Tyson based mostly on the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. These include the conduct of the sufferer main up to the incident, the interplay between Mr. Tyson and the victim, as well as the requests of both the sufferer and Mr. Tyson that no charges be filed in this case," Wagstaffe stated.
The case is now closed.
Cellphone video confirmed Tyson, 55, appearing to try to punch someone who was pushing him away. Representatives for Tyson said the individual was harassing Tyson. The video did not show what happened before the altercation.
David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld and Martin Sabelli, attorneys for Tyson, responded to the choice to not file charges by thanking Wagstaffe, the San Mateo County sheriff and legislation enforcement agencies "for their cautious, diligent, and professional work."
