Talking in the dugout of the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kapler said, "I don't plan on coming out for the anthem going forward until I really feel better about the route of our country."

Later, Kapler wrote about his disillusionment with what he referred to as "the dearth of delivery of the promise of what our nationwide anthem represents."
"I'm not okay with the state of this country. I wish I hadn't let my discomfort compromise my integrity. I wish that I could have demonstrated what I learned from my dad, that once you're dissatisfied together with your country, you let it be recognized through protest. The house of the courageous should encourage this."
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr made an impassioned plea to take stronger action towards gun violence in the USA.Kerr refused to discuss basketball ahead of Game 4 of the Warriors' collection towards the Dallas Mavericks, as an alternative raising his voice as he railed in opposition to gun violence within the wake of Tuesday's shooting.
"In the last 10 days, we've had elderly Black individuals killed in a grocery store in Buffalo, we've had Asian churchgoers killed in Southern California, now we've got kids murdered in school," Kerr told reporters initially of the press convention.
"When are we going to do one thing? I'm drained. I am so tired of getting up here and offering condolences to the devastated households which can be on the market ... I am tired of the moments of silence. Sufficient."
