NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — It's a matter that is taken maintain in Tennessee: books like "Maus" or "Stroll Two Moons" have been pulled from shelves.
While those books is likely to be banned from some schools, there is nonetheless elsewhere you'll find them.
"Our job is simply to ensure that if you need it, it is right here for you," said Public Info Officer for the Nashville Public Library, Ed Brown.
"'Maus' is all checked out right now," said Brown. "So we received extra copies on order but as soon as word acquired round about what occurred in McMinn County, we got a whole lot of holds."
Those are simply some of the two million different supplies on the Nashville Public Library.
"Lots of people do not wish to learn these books; they do not want their children to have to learn these books, or forced to read these books, and that's positive," stated Brown. "But there are lots individuals who do, and we wish to be there for the individuals who do wish to read these supplies."
And if you want to make your love for these materials identified, what higher means than with your library card? The 5,000 restricted edition cards for the campaign say "I read banned books."
"All of us watch the TV exhibits that we like; we all watch the totally different sports activities or root for the different groups we're part of," stated Brown. "Books are not any completely different."
The aim is to get the 5,000 library cards within the palms of recent sign-ups this month.
"We're not making an attempt to be a push back — a drive pushing again against these decisions — we need to be a substitute for say, for those who might not be capable of get it there... you may get it here," mentioned Brown.
