Dad or mum with concealed weapon accidentally shoots self while at Arlington ISD faculty, police say

Arlington police stated Duff Elementary College was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a parent with a concealed weapon had his gun by chance go off, hitting the parent within the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police stated Duff Elementary School was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mum or dad with a hid weapon had his gun by accident go off, hitting the guardian within the leg.

The school had early release and students were released at the planned time of 12:10 p.m.

In response to police, the mother or father, recognized as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and by accident shot himself. His harm was not critical.

The school district stated White was inside the building, near the foyer space, and never within the hallway close to college students when the gun went off.

Police and college officers stated there was no threat made and the mum or dad did not have "malicious intent."

No college students or workers had been injured. The mother or father was taken to an area hospital after being shot in the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones mentioned after White was released from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with illegal carrying of a weapon in prohibited places and discharge of a firearm in sure municipalities.

In the two days since the Uvalde mass faculty taking pictures, there have been five cases in North Texas associated to weapons brought to schools or threats made.

Arlington mother and father said their minds immediately considered the worst once they were notified.

No parent ever needs there to be a purpose for them to get a text message saying their kid's school is on lockdown.

However since this week's deadly capturing at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they cannot assist but assume the worst after they do.

"Once I acquired the text message, I was like, ‘Oh my God, something is going to happen.’ I used to be shocked," guardian Karima Rasheed said.

While most times, lockdowns are solely drills college students have to participate in, Rasheed's son, Rami, stated that understanding what occurred earlier this week made this lockdown totally different. 

"I began seeing my classmates starting to cry and our instructor received a notification on their telephone saying someone was in the building," he said.

Weapons aren't allowed on faculty property, and parents FOX 4 spoke with stated even if it was a mistake, the timing is just horrible.

"What are we going to do? They have to go to school, and obviously, statistically, it is unlikely to occur, however you never wish to be the one statistic. What if it is your children?" Matthew Mitchell stated.

Mitchell lives across the road from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to a different Arlington school. 

"I’m terrified, completely terrified. I’ve obtained twin six-year-olds that go to a special Arlington college and every time I hear there is a lockdown or a faculty shooting, my heart jumps into my throat," he stated.

Rasheed said Thursday was the commencement day for sixth grade college students at Duff Elementary.

While driving her son to high school within the morning, she had a talk with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever occurred at his school.

"If something happened, you’ve bought to run anywhere that’s secure and conceal," she told her youngster.

Whereas some say the incident in Uvalde is too recent to speak politics, Mitchell said one thing must be accomplished now. 

"They need to talk about it, they wish to marketing campaign on it, they wish to fundraiser on it, however they don’t need to actually go any legal guidelines and do something," he added.
