Nashville Public Library launches ‘Freedom to Learn’ campaign

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — It's a topic that is taken hold in Tennessee: books like "Maus" or "Walk Two Moons" have been pulled from cabinets.

Whereas these books could be banned from some schools, there is still some other place you could find them.

"Our job is just to make sure that if you want it, it's here for you," said Public Information Officer for the Nashville Public Library, Ed Brown.

"'Maus' is all checked out proper now," said Brown. "So we acquired more copies on order but as quickly as word received around about what occurred in McMinn County, we obtained quite a lot of holds."

These are just some of the two million other supplies at the Nashville Public Library.

"Lots of people don't want to read these books; they do not need their youngsters to must learn these books, or compelled to read these books, and that's advantageous," mentioned Brown. The goal is to get the 5,000 library cards in the arms of recent sign-ups this month.

"We aren't making an attempt to be a push back — a pressure pushing again against these decisions — we wish to be an alternative to say, if you happen to could not be capable of get it there... you can get it right here," stated Brown.
