Talking in the dugout of the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kapler stated, "I do not plan on coming out for the anthem going forward till I feel higher in regards to the course of our country."
In a blog post, Kapler questioned whether the country's management is committed to representing its people's greatest interests and whether or not the United States is really "the land of the free and the house of the courageous.""We weren't given bravery, and we aren't free. The police on the scene put a mom in handcuffs as she begged them to go in and save her children. They blocked dad and mom trying to organize to charge in to cease the shooter, together with a father who realized his daughter was murdered whereas he argued with the cops. We aren't free when politicians determine that the lobbyist and gun industries are more vital than our youngsters's freedom to go to highschool without having bulletproof backpacks and active shooter drills," Kapler wrote.
Later, Kapler wrote about his disillusionment with what he referred to as "the lack of delivery of the promise of what our national anthem represents."
"I'm not okay with the state of this nation. I wish I hadn't let my discomfort compromise my integrity. I wish that I could have demonstrated what I discovered from my dad, that if you're dissatisfied together with your country, you let or not it's recognized by way of protest. The house of the brave ought to encourage this."
