BERKELEY, Calif. - A 16-year-old boy was arrested after recruiting others to participate in a mass school taking pictures that would have included a bombing at Berkeley High Faculty, police say. 

The teenager was arrested Monday, when he turned himself in to police, Berkeley Police Division mentioned in a press launch. Monday was Memorial Day and there was no school that day. 

The boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing destructive gadget materials and threatening to commit a criminal offense which will lead to demise or nice bodily injury.

Police mentioned they received a tip on Saturday that the boy was recruiting others in plans of a shooting that included explosives. Following the tip, police obtained and executed a search warrant for a residence. 

Police didn't say if the teen was a scholar at Berkeley Excessive Faculty.

Upon executing the search warrant, police stated they discovered elements to explosives and assault rifles, a number of knives, and digital items that could possibly be used to create further weapons. 

At that point, a warrant was obtained for the teenager's arrest.

"College safety remains a excessive precedence for the division," police mentioned in a statement. 

Details on whom the teen was making an attempt to recruit weren't disclosed. Police said this case stays under investigation. 

Berkeley Unified Supt. Brent Stephens advised the college's community that the district was in close contact with police during this investigation. 

After police confiscated the teen's weapon elements, the district relied on police expertise to assess any potential ongoing danger to its schools. The district communicated with police on the coed's whereabouts. 

"As added precautions during this period, we alerted our administrative and security employees about this investigation and, as is our standard practice, maintained close contact with our BPD School Resource Officer on the Berkeley Excessive Faculty campus," Stephens wrote. "All through the investigation interval, we were assured that this individual didn't pose a right away risk to the Berkeley High School neighborhood."
